I have just watched the final trailer for Stranger Things Season 3! You can watch it here:
Now I’m excited! In a previous blog post, I wrote about my concerns and impressions for Stranger Things Season 3. I covered alot of the basics, yet with this final trailer being released, I have more to say.
First, I love the horror and dread. I’m really pleased that Stranger Things is promising more tension and higher stakes. When people discuss the show, the terrifying aspects aren’t mentioned that often. Here, in the final trailer- horror is given the limelight. A stand-out scene is where the gang are in a mall, and the creeping raptors make their move.
Second, I’m curious about how Billy fits into the story. Is he going to be a host for the monster? Will it be permanent? How will Max react? The trailer gives us some indication- yet skimps out on the specifics. I’m quite curious! I like Max, and I hope she is given juicy material this season. It would be interesting if she intervenes and tries to save her brother’s life. Gosh, I love complex sibling relationships!
Third, who is that sinister voice who says ‘we’re going to end you?‘ It looks like we have a new villain. Perhaps its the newly-introduced mayor character. On a side note, I liked that the trailer focused on the younger characters. Yes, we love Joyce and Hopper yet I believe the true heart of the show lies with the child characters- especially Dustin, Eleven / Jane, Will, etc.
A character who didn’t get much material in this trailer is Nancy Wheeler. She’s not a bad character by any means (I rather like her), but I find myself frustrated with her writing. She’s often caught up in relationship drama. Nancy is at her most interesting when she makes decisions (her hunting the monster), or when the show develops her non-romantic relationships. I was pleased Nancy found closure with Barb last season. By her character getting some peace, she’s able to move on to great things.
I’m also curious about Steve and Jonathan, as well. Stranger Things is a remarkable show in that the audience feels a strong and protective bond with the characters. This is quite incredible considering the show has only had two seasons.
Overall, I’m digging the horror vibes from the Stranger Things season 3 final trailer. Adding onto that, I’m quite impressed with the promotional material this season. It’s looking to be a fantastic ride!
